STRATEGIES

I used to lift up my 50lb bags of bulk food and pour them into my 5 gallon buckets. That was heavy and messy as grains spilled on the floor. Then I realized I could take a little longer to scoop it out. Put on some music, youtube video on homesteading, or just listen to the rhythmic sound of the scooping and it'll be done before you know it.

Put your container on a chair so you're not reaching to the floor. I start with my bag of bulk food on the floor, since I am scooping from the top of the bag and am on the shorter side. As I deplete the bag I move it to another chair.

A smaller scoop is lighter but a larger scoop is faster. Plastic is lighter, glass heavier. A comfortable handle for your grip is very helpful (your thumb should overlap a little bit with your pointer finger). Try different sizes until you reach your goldilocks.

A bonus is it's also less messy transferring the food this way since you'll likely be more accurate scooping than dumping.
